Applicants should have taken high quality and challenging courses in pure or applied mathematics and physics during their undergraduate education. Previous experience in oceanography is not expected; although, field schools, REU's, and coursework in ocean science could help you discover interests in this area. If you want to work at the forefront of knowledge in ocean physics or related topics, then I urge you to consider applying for graduate study in CEOAS at OSU.
- Take advanced courses in differential equations or methods of mathematical physics.
- Take courses in numerical methods, applications of linear algebra, and applications of statistics.
- Widen your range of interests by attending seminars and research colloquia, and by browsing science journals.
- Learn to use Latex.
- Produce evidence of your intellectual interests, technical skills, and creativity.
